My Grandfather

My Grandfather has had a tremendous impact on my life since I was born. From countless rides to and from baseball games to five hour long monopoly games, this man has done it all. I can truly say that I wouldn't be half of the person I am today if it wasn't for my hardworking and loving, papa. The biggest thing I will take away from my Grandfather is "nothing comes easy in life". In other words, nothing is meant to be easy, you have to work hard to achieve your goals. Which is a motto I personally live my life by. As he gets older I am watching him get slower and slower which is very hard for me to watch. I understand it's a way of life but, it still doesn't make it any easier on me. So we should empower their ideas rather than tell them they are to young or to naive to know anything. We as people just have to try to understand where these young people are coming from and allow their voices to be heard rather than put them down for being young. That's why I also liked the quote from Thorne on page 3 which was " in her study of ...

K- Know: What does this reading reinforce in what you already know?  That youth programs are deficit  focused for a very long time. L- Learn: What did you Learn about the history and practice of youth development?  I really liked learning about the resiliency of youth. For example caring relationships , expectations, and the opportunities . I also found it interesting that the change in youth development was a political change. M-More: What do you want to know more about?  I would personally like to learn more about the traditional views of youth services. I feel like that is something that I am not incredibly educated about and I think that it would be interesting to dive deeper into that topic.
